Beginning therapy can feel like a significant step, particularly when you’re struggling with questions about who you are, where you belong, or how you’ve come to see yourself. You may have spent a long time adapting to the needs or expectations of others, navigating different roles, relationships or cultures, or simply feeling disconnected from yourself. My role is to offer a warm, thoughtful space where you can explore these experiences without judgement and begin to understand yourself more deeply.

is possible.

Hello I'm Khamisuu
I am an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist and the founder of Maqsoud Psychotherapy and Wellbeing.
My journey into counselling began with curiosity. Having often been told that I was a good listener and would make a great therapist, I decided to explore the profession. What began as curiosity gradually grew into a genuine passion as I discovered the power of the therapeutic relationship.
Â
I came to appreciate how meaningful it can be to offer someone a space where they feel comfortable enough to open up, share their story and explore their inner world without fear of judgement. Seeing clients place their trust in me, sometimes from our very first meeting, strengthened my belief in the importance of feeling truly heard, understood and accepted.
Â
As my experience developed, I became increasingly drawn to exploring identity and how our relationships, experiences, cultural backgrounds and wider society shape the way we see ourselves.
Â
This interest deepened through my postgraduate research exploring Black African Muslim women's lived experiences of racism, sexism and Islamophobia in the UK and their impact on mental health and identity. My findings highlighted how discrimination can contribute to anxiety, self-doubt and emotional exhaustion, sometimes leaving individuals feeling they must suppress parts of who they are to navigate the world around them.
Â
This strengthened what has become one of my central passions in psychotherapy: helping people understand, reconnect with and reclaim their sense of identity, particularly when life experiences have left them questioning their worth, their voice or their place in the world.
Â
Alongside this passion, I have gained clinical experience within NHS and community-based settings, supporting adults through anxiety, depression, grief and loss, chronic pain, relationship difficulties, caring responsibilities and significant life changes.
Â
My approach is integrative, drawing on Person-Centred Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I recognise that everyone's experiences are different, and I adapt our work to your individual needs, helping you explore your emotions, understand patterns and develop greater self-awareness.
Â
Above all, I aim to offer a warm, compassionate and non-judgemental space where you can feel comfortable being yourself, explore what matters to you and move towards meaningful change at your own pace.
Â
I hold a Master's degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy, I am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and a practitioner member of the Black, African and Asian Therapy Network (BAATN). I offer online psychotherapy to adults throughout the UK.

Why I created Maqsoud
For me, meaningful therapy creates both safety and possibility, a place where uncertainty can be spoken about honestly, where different parts of ourselves can be understood with greater compassion, and where we can begin to reconnect with a sense of self that feels more authentic.
That thinking sits behind the Maqsoud philosophy:

UNDERSTAND | HEAL | THRIVE
I created Maqsoud to be more than simply a place to attend therapy. I wanted it to represent a space where people can feel safe enough to explore who they are, what has shaped them and what truly matters to them.
Recognising The Whole Person
I recognise that our experiences are shaped by the different aspects of who we are, including our culture, ethnicity, faith, gender, identity and social circumstances. These aspects of our lives can intersect in ways that influence how we see ourselves, relate to others and experience the world around us.

My approach is informed by an awareness of intersectionality, recognising that each person's experiences are unique and cannot be understood through a single aspect of their identity. I aim to offer a space where these experiences can be explored with sensitivity, curiosity and without judgement.

A little more about me
Outside of my work as a psychotherapist, I value time with family and friends, being in nature and making space for my own wellbeing. I believe that looking after ourselves is not a luxury, but an important part of being able to be present in our relationships, responsibilities and everyday lives.
